The 3-Way: Little Black Dress Edition

The Dress:

Dress from Modcloth.com for $58.00 CAD

For this edition of `The Three Way` I picked a simple, sheer v-neck black dress from Modcloth.

Day:

Sweater & Dress from Modcloth.com, Scarf from Forever 21, Boots from Heels.com

I went for a sort of boho-chic look here.  I just love the coral and mustard shades together.  I think it`s really fresh and adds some  much needed color to the LBD.

Work:

Dress from Modcloth, Sweater from Forever 21, Flats from Heels.com, Necklace from Betsey Johnson, Bag from Banana Republic

Working in an office doesn`t have to be boring.  Dress up your LBD with some fun accessiories and a low heel.  Cardigans are an office staple (for me anyway) I`m typically either too hot or too cold.  It`s nice to layer, without looking frumpy.

Night:

Dress from Modcloth.com, Clutch and Earrings from Forever 21, Pumps from Aldo

Most people think that night looks should involve bright colors, too much makeup and not enough clothing.  I love this look.  The platforms are sky-high and totally fun for a night out, but in a nice neutral tone.  I kept all of the accesories neutral and mixed a few different patterns.  I think the overall effect is classy and stylish.

Touching Base...

Hello Lovelies!

As you can probably tell, I'm in the process of changing up the layout here @ Lipgloss & Lingerie. I'm still trying to make it "feel" right.  Anywho, I will be putting out a new post tonight no worries.

What do you think of the layout so far?

Hit or Miss: Emma Watson Glitters at London Fashion Week

I think the key to being fashionable is taking risks.  Emma is definitely being risky in this yellow mini.  Personally, I LOVE this outfit.  The dress is fun, unique and certainly attention-grabbing. Besides, LOOK AT THOSE SHOES!  I wouldn't say this look is for everyone, but being young and slim means Emma can wear just about anything.  Go on...take a minute to envy her.

What do you think?

Style Idol

It is my hope that this blog and its advice will serve as a guide to you as you develop your personal style. In our 20s, we start becoming our real-selves. We're past the confines of high school's peer-pressure and out in the real world, where we have complete freedom to discover who we are.

We all have someone whose style speaks to us. This person can be a celebrity, a model, a friend or a family member. It's good to look to others for inspiration, but keep in mind that style comes from within. Style is more about the confidence you radiate, than what you put on your body. If you feel good in your clothes, you will look good in your clothes, simple as that. This is why it is important to remember that copying someone else's style entirely will not do you any favours. Think of style idols as living brainstorms.

My style is pretty eclectic and laid back, with a touch of simplicity and class. I love black & white outfits, floral and leather mixed together, flowy tops, wavy hair, fun patterns and floaty cloud-like silhouettes.

My style idols are Natalie Portman, Isla Fisher and Brittany Flickinger. I like something different about each of these women and their personal styles. I extract the pieces that I like, and add my own twist to them to create my style.

I like Natalie for her classy elegance, simplicity, and structure. For this, I incorporate solid colors, sleek lines and soft waves (in my hair) to my style. Isla on the other hand is very eclectic. She's often seen in flowy tops with form-fitting jeans and structured jackets. She can almost always be seen with a statement necklace or a scarf billowing from her neck. For this: Add in bold earrings or necklaces as standalone jewellery and trench coats or knee-high boots. Brittany has the eclectic vibe going on, with a touch of hippie-rocker. I love her teased hair, fun patterns, leather and smokey-soft makeup.

Who are your style idols?
Tell me about your personal style in the comments! I'd love to hear who you look to for inspiration.

Song I Love: Black Eyed Peas, "Meet me Halfway"

Hey guys!

Okay, so this is far from fashion-related, but I can't help myself.  "Meet me Halfway" has been stuck in my head for about three days now.  I need to blog about it, or I just might die. It's got to be the most catchy song I've heard in a while. I can't tell if I actually love it, or if it's on instant replay as some sort of subconscious self-torture.  Apparently, Fergie is trying to sound like Madonna in her early days (or so I heard on the radio).  What you think?

Hit or Miss: Nicky Hilton's Fashion Week Denim

Image from WhoWhatWear.com

I've never really understood the denim dress trend.  I've never felt the need to drape my entire body in one super-tight, heavy material...but that's just me. I will however, give Nicky major props for her cute ankle boots and monochromatic color scheme though!

What do you think?

Is Nicky Hilton's look a hit, or a miss?

My Must-Haves of the Moment

We all have items on our mental wish lists.  Since my mental wish list changes so frequently, you can be sure to see this segment more than a few times here at Lipgloss and Lingerie.  Take a look at my Must-haves of the Moment...

Something Plaid or Houndstooth
One of the season's trends that I'm totally in-love with: plaid and houndstooth.  Plaid is a forever trend.  It goes out, and then it comes back in... Why you ask?  Because plaid is a simple, classic pattern that looks great on everyone. Plaid is a great way to add interest to an otherwise simple outfit.  Take the dress above for example: I LOVE the solid blue top with the plaid bottom.  This is great if you have a large bust or belly that you are looking to take the attention away from.  The patterned bottom draws the eye downward, making your bottom portion the focal point.   Something that will never go out of style is a proper-fitting trench.   If you're petite like I am, it will be tough to find a trench that fits you correctly.  The good news is: most tailors do a fine job at taking in the sleeves, and shortening the length, without taking away from the overall shape of the coat.  Take it a step further into trendsville by getting one in a bright color, or in houndstooth, as shown here.

Over-the-Knee Boots

Ever since the famous episode of Gossip Girl that showcased Blake Lively in a pair of Chinese Laundry over-the-knee boots, I've been lusting for a pair of my own.  If you drool at the sight of knee-high suede boots, we are now in luck ladies.  Over-the-knee boots are all the rage right now (yes, I said, "all the rage"...) making them easy to pick up at affordable prices.

Grey boots from Chinese Laundry, Black boots from Victoria's Secret.

BANGLES, BANGLES, BANGLES! (and charm bracelets)

I am all about statement bracelets right now.  The girlier the better.  Forever 21 has these gorgeous wooden, floral bangles.  Pair them with dark denim, and a solid colored top to make them really pop.  I also like to layer them with smaller, metallic bangles and bracelets.  Naturally, I'm also really crazy about charm-bracelets at the moment.  I like pairing them in un-expected ways, like with a pair of studded pumps, or a leather jacket.  The charm bracelet shown here is a Betsey Johnson design and is a little steep in price, but you can easily pick one up that's just as cute, for a lot less at stores like Claires and Ardene.

Medallion Earrings

I think my fascination with medallion earrings started when I decided to be a roman empress for Halloween (costume: here)--since then I've seen them on a few people, and while they don't work for everyone, I think  the majority of people that I've seen can get away with sporting them.  Luckily, I've got a pretty good face shape for these earrings and plan on picking up a pair in the very near future to try out.   For those of you wondering if your face is the right shape to pull off these beauties, why not watch this video by Anna Saccone where she discusses how to choose accessories based on your face shape.  Subscribe to her Channel on Youtube , her videos are fabulous!

This pair here (as well as the pair in the header) can be found at Forever 21.

Boyfriend Sweaters

I'm a huge fan of the "boyfriend" look right now.  Just take a look at my post about boyfriend jeans if you don't believe me.  I love the way boyfriend cardigans look over floral dresses and with jeans and flats.  They're great for a cool (not cold) night out rather than wearing a heavy jacket.  Unfortunately, as mentioned before I'm petite... so the boyfriend pull-over ends up making me look like  I really did borrow the shirt from my boyfriend--and not in a good way.  Sort of in the way that I'm 5 feet tall and he's 6 foot  2, and the sleeves are so long that I'm one red nose away from looking like Dopey from the seven dwarves. Oh well, at least they look nice on normal people. lol

Dress for Less: The Boyfriend Jean

Katie Holmes made them famous, and now they're on everybody who's somebody's behind!  Over-size men's clothing is making a huge wave in women's fashion right now.  If you're not into plaid, or oversize tees, then the boyfriend jean definitely the way to go.

Seen left are "Ex Boyfriend Crop Jeans" which are going for $225.00 on Shopbop.com... I don't know about you, but I find that pretty steep for a pair of jeans already loaded with holes... A more budget-friendly version (below) is American Eagle's Boy Fit Jean in a Vintage Blue Destroyed Wash for $40.50. I love the way they've been paired with gold flats.  It's a really cute, effortless look, which of course, is what boyfriend jeans are all about!

Even better still, is Victoria's Secret: Relaxed Boyfriend Crop Jean (below) at $59.50 (currently on sale for $39.50!!).

Product Review: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Sin

I'll be honest, the idea of eyeshadow priming is completely new to me.  When I purchased Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Sin from Sephora.com ($17) I was more than excited to try it out.  It promises to make your eyeshadow stay put longer, and give you  "creaseless" coverage.  I admit, it certainly did deliver.  It's a light sparkling champagne color which is really great if you have pale skin like I do.  It acts as a sort of highlighter for your face and is really great on it's own as a shimmery shadow.  However,  I find that Sin, has a tendency to steal the show--no matter what you put over top of it, it seems to over-power the shadow, making it pretty much useless as a "primer". All in all, it's a great product and I totally recommend it for a night on the town.  I'll be buying the original primer from urban decay and trying it out soon.  Review soon to follow!!
